OXFORD United Women youngster Cecily Wellesley-Smith has been praised after captaining England’s Under-16 side.
The centre back skippered the team for their clash against Wales at St George’s Park.
England won the friendly on penalties.
Not a story I was expecting to write on my first day back... Former Chelsea goalkeeper @PetrCech made his @chiefsicehockey debut and put in a man of the match performance at @OxfordCityStars over the weekendhttps://t.co/LuhdYzqbAT

United manager Liam Gilbert told the club website: “She’s a local kid and that makes it even prouder for us and for Oxfordshire.
“Hopefully in the coming years she’ll be representing Oxford and England at a senior level.
“We as a club can’t wait to see Cecily progress both as a player and a person, and we have the infrastructure here for her to do that.”
First team captain Lauren Haynes added: “It is an outstanding achievement and one that everyone at Oxford United Women is extremely proud of.
“Cecily is a great role model for all the young players coming through the academy.”
In December of last year, Wellesley-Smith joined Niko Nenonen-Millar in being selected for their respective England Schools’ football teams.
The call-ups were the first time that Oxfordshire had two students representing England during the same season.
