I HAVE been saying for ages that there is an Oxfordshire pit that could produce a new roach record.

And a pit which is only a short drive from Oxford has recently thrown up another huge red fin, weighing 3lb 11oz.

The fish was taken by Ross Smith, who used a maggot feeder with maggot on the hook to tempt the fish.

It might be abit late this season to see a new record coming from this local water, but next autumn and winter we could be in for a big shock.

It certainly holds some big roach and in my opinion it is only a matter of time before the record (4lb 4oz) is smashed.

AFTER Monday's success at Marsh Farm, myself and Colin Howse returned on the Thursday, but what a change.

After Monday's cold wind, the weather was warm with very little wind, which had changed direction.

I started off in the swim I had the 2lb 15oz crucian from and Colin fished a peg opposite me.

The water was flat and I had two bites on pellet and that was that.

Colin fished the method and had a crucian over 2lb plus some small tench, but nothing like it had been fishing.

I think that the wind plays a big part and we should off gone to the other end of the pit which the wind was blowing into.

That is what we are going to do next time fish the bank with the wind blowing into it.

A COUPLE of weeks a go. I mentioned that Witney specimen angler Alan Storey had caught a silver bream from Mill Farm Fishery and that he was going to submit it as a new record.

After having his scales checked, the fish weighed 2lb 2oz, which is the same weight as caught by the current record holder Christine Smith, so he is the joint record holder.

As this water is well-known for having a lot of true silver bream in it, I am sure that the record will be broken again and hopefully it will be Alan who catches the fish.

PANSHILL are running a Wednesday evening ten week series starting on June 11.
