Home Counties Premier League

There will be no hard feelings in the Phillips family despite Eddie replacing his brother Jimmy as Banbury host Radlett in Division 1 tomorrow.

Batsman Eddie comes in for spinner Jimmy as unbeaten Banbury shift the balance of their side.

"Jimmy is my vice-captain and we had a good chat about it," said captain Benji Hector.

"He will sit it out and have a decent bowl in the seconds.

"We don't think the conditions will be too conducive to playing three spinners.

"I don't want him sitting around and not getting some good cricket.

"Eddie comes in and bats at No 6; it's purely a cricketing decision.

"It's a case of horses for courses."

Banbury's other change sees Nathan Hawkes make his first appearance of the season, replacing Chris Smith, who has university commitments.

Hector added: "Nathan will bat in the top order and he gives us another bowling option.

"He has been bowling first change for Northants Academy."

Stewart Laudat returns in place of Philip Evans as leaders Oxford visit Welwyn Garden City, who have impressed since being promoted from Division 2 East.

Skipper Jason Harrison said: "It is a tactical change as we are playing seven specialist batsman.

"Welwyn have made an excellent start.

"They have got a good all-round team with several Hertfordshire players, plus two ex-first class players in Jamie Hewitt and Aaron Laraman."

Young seamers Mitchell Meredith, 17, and Michael Beard, 15, have the chance to impress when Thame Town visit Buckingham in Division 2 West.

With strike bowler Sammy Lachlan on holiday, skipper Rob Brooks plans to use the duo more than recently.

Richard Carr, who scored 50 and took eight wickets for the seconds last week, replaces Lachlan, while Tom Hogan comes in for Ed Barnett.

They hope to have batsman Joe Robinson registered in time.

Brooks said: "Mitchell and Michael haven't had as many overs as they would have liked so far, so now is their chance.

"Michael took two wickets for Gloucestershire seconds this week."

And with 18-year-old bowler Michael Higgs impressing in Thame's victory over Kidlington last week, the future looks bright for Brooks's men.

Brooks added: "If we win the toss, this can be another win for us, but I'm sure Buckingham will be thinking the same."

Jon Kitson and Faisal Chaudry come in for Kidlington's home clash with Gerrards Cross.

Andy Oliver and Aquib Lakab drop down with Oliver captaining Kidlington's second team.

Having lost three from three so far, victory would be a great morale-booster for the club.
