FromPostToPillar was the standout performer in Round One of the RPGTV Cowley Puppy Collar last week, and Elizabeth McNair's dog has the ability to advance to the semi-finals during Round Two which takes place this evening.
It was the 23-month-old dog's first competitive run around Oxford when he stopped the clock at 26.93 seven days ago and became our only Round One qualifier to break the 27-second barrier over the 450-metre trip.
His first sectional time (4.21) was nothing out of the ordinary following similar efforts in his two trials which clearly caught the bookmakers' eyes as they installed him as the competition's ante-post favourite. What impressed everyone in attendance the most was FromPostToPillar's extraordinary burst of speed down the backstraight, which saw him bag a nine-and-one-quarter length win.
He runs in Heat Two at 7.46pm in the company of Havana Playboy, Queen Pink, Grandpa Roo, Two Marks and Jasmine Lily. Queen Pink is perhaps the biggest threat - she beat Jasmine Lily by the finest of margins last week after showing decent early pace on her Oxford debut.
In our first of four heats at 7.28pm, Oi Oi Joey will be looking to raise the roof once more when running for the Joey Beauchamp Syndicate. It's a very winnable race from a favourable draw, and connections must be hopeful of booking a semi-final spot by placing in the first three.
On form, Oi Oi Joey is the fastest trapper and should be able to hold rivals Chippy Brady, Singalong Java, Vancouver Port, Havana AllABlaze and Jondel on his outside.
Many eyes will be focused on Queen Gaga in Heat Three at 8.05pm. She was impeded badly in her Round One run and only just qualified for this evening's card courtesy of a spirited late run. By avoiding trouble, she can set the standard.
In Heat Four - our final qualifier - Lively Lauren looks a promising type. Matt Dartnell's bitch was beaten a short-head by Oi Oi Joey.
