Kidlington are likely to be banned from the ECB Cockspur Cup next season following their expulsion from this year's competition.

The Stratfield Brake club were kicked out of the cup earlier this week after being found to have fielded a player under a false name in their second-round match against Reading.

ECB competitions manager Patrick Mahony said: "There is nothing in the rules to fine them.

"The only other sanction is not to invite them next year as the Cockspur Cup is an invitation competition.

"It will be my recommendation that they are not invited to play in the competition next year because this is quite serious.

"It is not the first time this has happened in the comp- etition, but it is the first in your area."

Mahony added: "The decision to expel Kidlington was something I feel that I had to take a stand on, keeping the integrity of the competition."

He said the ultimate decision rested with the ECB's recreational cricket group, but they were likely to back his view.

He added that the umpires had suspicions about a rule breach on the day, but a full investigation came later.

Kidlington fielded 20-year-old Morris Motors Exiles player Jehan Mohammed under the name Aquib Lakab, who is 16.

Because Aquib Lakab plays at under 16 level, he is only allowed to bowl six-over spells in senior cricket.

When 'reminded' about this, Jehan Mohammed apparently looked a little surprised.
