GREYHOUND racing was hit by a bolt from the blue this week with the news that premier Stadium Walthamstow is to close in August.
oThe Stow, as it's known blamed falling attendances, the increase of off-course betting and a huge deficit of £500,000 last year.
It's certainly a worrying situation for the greyhound industry when the top track in the country cannot sustain its existence. Perhaps the economic situation is taking its toll.
Oxford racing boss Gary Baiden is sure to be approached by some of the redundant trainers, and they would bring some quality hounds.
However, Baiden has enough problems at the moment ensuring the Oxford owners getting a regular run for their charges since the loss of the Wednesday BAGS meeting.
Ironically, Oxford are still hoping to organise an inter-track with the "Stow' before they finally have to close the doors.
Meanwhile,Maurice Massey's Pall Mall finalist, Positive Step, bounced back from injury with a thrilling win despite trouble on Tuesday and will take in an open at Coventry tomorrow.
Michael Peterson will be aiming his latest recruit, Mustang Mozart, at the Peterborough Cesarewitch, while top Oxford stayer Endless Cliche takes in an open at Monmore this weekend.
Ian Wills is pleased after Oxfordshire Cup finalist Droopys Kolo, off injured for some time, came out of two bend trial sound after a smart 15.19secs.
