Dave Taylor made a brilliant 70, but it couldn't save Kidlington from their second defeat of the season at home to Finchampstead in Home Counties Premier League Division 2 West on Saturday.
But it was the toss that was to prove crucial to the outcome of the game.
Heavy rain had left the original wicket awash and it was only frantic preparations on Friday by the Kidlington groundstaff that enabled them to use last week's 2nd XI pitch.
Losing the toss, Kidlington found themselves batting in less than ideal conditions.
Taylor's knock meant at least Kidlington made a fist of the game, before the middle order failed miserably.
And it it hadn't been for some lusty strokeplay from Jamil Faruq (24) and No 10 Faisil Chaudhry (22) it could have been much worse.
Although Finchampstead stuttered in reply, at one stage reeling at 14-2, improved conditions saw them to a comfortable six-wicket victory.
Kidlington 6pts, Finchampstead 25
