Radley speedster Ben Owen grabbed a senior men's sprint double at a hot and humid Horspath Road.

With weather conditions a far cry from a year ago, when several events had to be abandoned due to torrential rain and high winds, Owen continued his excellent start to the season with notable victories in both the 100 and 200m.

He clocked 11 seconds dead to win the 100m, before following up with a time of 22.0 in the 200m.

Elsewhere in the senior men's competition, Tom Penfold, running for Birchfield Harriers, easily won the 1500m, leading from start to finish to record a championship record of 3mins 53secs.

And he wrapped up a middle-distance double with victory in the 800m, although he was chased to the line in an exciting finish by Oxford University's Richard Hildick-Smith.

Penfold won by just two-tenths of a second, crossing the line in 1.54.8.

Banbury Harriers' Perriss Wilkins retained his discus title - but only just.

Returning from injury, Wilkins threw 49.58m to take the gold medal.

Oxford City's improving Ben Kelsey came close to snatching first place with a throw of 48.74.

Luke Chown (Abingdon Amblers) took gold in both the 100 and 200m in the under 20 men's competition.

In the 100m, Chown clocked 11.1, before setting a championship record of 22.1 to win the 200m - on both occasions edging out Banbury's Sebastian Tully- Middleton.

There was another double victory in the jumps, William Jones, representing Reading, clearing 1.80m in the high jump and recording 6.27m in the long jump.

Bicester's James Wright had a field day in the under 17 men's age group, coming away with four medals in total.

He won both the 100 and 200m in times of 12.0 and 23.8 respectively, and claimed silver in the long jump (6.06) and 400m (52.7).

His Bicester clubmate Jackson Curtis took three gold medals, winning the 100m hurdles, 200m and long jump.

Elsewhere, Radley's Phillippe Essink took the county titles in the 400m and 800m.

In the under 15 boys' competition, Peter Barnshaw (Abingdon Amblers) took home four medals.

He clocked a championship record to win the 400m in 54.8, and added another gold in the high jump (1.67) and the 800m (2.16.7).

Barnshaw also claimed silver in the 200m.

Marcus Woodington (Oxford City) was crowned county champion in the 80m hurdles and javelin.

Goring & Wallingford's George Axon took home an impressive haul of five medals from the Under 13 boys' category.

His best performance came in the 80m hurdles, where he clocked a championship record of 13.9, and he added further golds in the long jump and high jump.

Axon completed his collection with silver medals in the javelin and discus.

In the veteran events, vet 40 Charlie Batts (Witney Roadrunners) took gold in all his jump events.

He measured 5.40m in the long jump, 1.35 in the high jump and 10.22 in the triple jump.

Chris Padmore (Oxford City) recorded a championship record to win the vet 50 long jump with 4.58m, while Ron Jones (Abingdon) set new records to win the shot (10.56) and hammer (31.76).
