New father Jason Plato was the big winner at the British Touring Car Championship rounds at Donington Park.
Plato, Darren Turner and Fabrizio Giovanardi shared the three victories, with the first two making history by winning races with a car powered by diesel.
Oxford driver Plato arrived at Donington only sixth in the standings, but has now risen to second to challenge Giovanardi, who narrowly beat him to last year's title.
Plato's win in the first race was followed by second and third place results to complete what has been a busy period in his life, having become a father earlier in the week.
He said: "We've now pretty much hit the sweet spot with the Leon TDI. Darren I really feel we can give the Vauxhalls a fight."
