OXFORD City Stars’ summer signings fired their side to a 6-4 win over Slough Jets in their NIHL Division 1 South opener.
Josh Abbott and Xander Wardlaw both scored twice in Berkshire, with fellow new recruit Shannon Taylor also on target.
Tom Ravenscroft completed victory late in the third period.
Abbott moved to Oxpens following a prolific spell at Guildford Phoenix and he opened his account with the only goal of the first period.
He bagged his second as both sides scored twice late in the middle 20 minutes, with Wardlaw also on target.
Stars pulled away in the third period to lead 5-2, with Ravenscroft’s effort sandwiching two Slough strikes.
It was a winning start to a mixed weekend for Stars, who sent a depleted side to champions Streatham Redhawks in their Britton Cup opener.
It meant the 10-1 defeat was not so surprising, although Wardlaw grabbed a consolation.
Stars have a double dose of Division 1 South action this weekend, starting with a trip to Raiders on Saturday (5.15pm).
They face Slough in their first home league fixture on Sunday evening (6.15pm).
