Oxford City 1 (Romeo 75)
Burnham 0
Oxford City put themselves in prime position for a home semi-final in the Division 1 South & West play-offs following a narrow victory over Burnham at Court Place Farm on Saturday.
This result, secured by a late goal from Yashwa Romeo, and Didcot Town's draw at home to Bridgwater Town means that a victory at Marlow in their final game next Saturday, will guarentee a home tie.
Second-placed Fleet Town, with a home game against relegated Slough, seem certain to come second behind champions Farnborough, so City's likely semi-final opponents will be Didcot.
City started strongly, with Romeo going close early on, while Michael Lyon was off-target with a couple of efforts.
At the other end, Mark Avery cleared the danger following Graham Lewis's dangerous cross for Burnham.
Approaching half-time, Leon Yarnie went close for the visitors, who then caused panic in the City goalmouth from Jeffrey Brown's centre, before the danger was cleared.
Apart from a Romeo header, City found it dioffult to turn their possession into decent chances.
However, their efforts were rewarded ibn the 75th minute when Darren Pond fed Romeo with a pinpoint pass.
Romeo latter kept his cool to score past the advancing keeper.
Pond then shot straight at the keeper when clear.
City had an anxious moment when Yarnie fired just past a post, but City held on for three valuable points.
Oxford City: Tucker, Saulsbury, Woodruffe, Gunn, Pond, Avery, Gardner (Bell 63), Malone, Romeo, Redknap (Stewart 73), Lyon (Telemaque 73). Subs not used: Davis, Carbon.
Attendance: 221
