Witney Angling Society kicked off their new season with a club match on Barford, and the venue was in good form for the 13 matchmen.
Feeding a mixture of caster, corn and pellet, Mike Mann fished the pole with corn on the hook and weighed in 39.2.0 of carp for the top spot.
Dave Williams fished worm over chop and had a mixed bag of carp, tench, roach and perch for 29.4.0 and second place, followed by Les Tibbetts (RS Baits), who fished pole and corn for 23.1.0 of carp.
The second match in Predator's Spring Carp League was fished by 16 on the New Lake at Rollright last Sunday.
Conditions were near perfect, but for whatever reason, the venue just did not switch on and the anglers found it a real struggle. In fact, only seven managed to catch.
The clear winner was Andy Benwell (Predator), who found 21.12.0 of small carp on the pole at 13m with pellet.
In second place with a carp weighing 2.8.0 was Bob Hobbs (Predator). Throughout the match, Bob tried everything and as a last resort, fished the whip with three maggots, producing his one fish.
Using the maggot-feeder against the island, Dave Ayres also had a single carp of 2.3.0 for third.
