Peter Haining, three time world championship gold medallist in the lightweight single scull, has joined the Abingdon rowing scene, writes MIKE ROSEWELL.
Haining, 46, will work as a professional head coach at Abingdon Rowing Club and and act as an adviser to various squads at Abingdon School.
Haining is winner of seven world championship medals in a 17-year career including three successive golds in the lightweight single scull between 1993 and 1995.
He will be working with crews from all squads assisted by Abingdon club coaches Jon Rooney and David Rhodes.
In recent seasons, Haining has been coaching Oxford Brookes.
His arrival at Abingdon comes at an exciting time for the club, who have a big new boathouse in the offing.
Haining is moving from Milton Keynes to Abingdon, where he will live on a riverboat on the Thames.
