North Oxford AS battled through the snow last Sunday to fish the Oxford Canal at King's Bridge when there was a field of nine anglers.
Pegged on the brambles, Dave Scott-Picton scored his third win in as many matches with 6.4.0. He started with bread, but after little success, switched to feeding chopped worm and using red maggot on the hook, which led to some skimmers and perch.
Alan Middleton was on the rushes and weighed in 85 small fish worth 3.10.8 for second. He also fed the chop and then used either pinkie or red maggot on the hook.
In third place was Jason Bean with 3.3.0 from the mile stone, using the chop with worm on the hook to find some perch.
It was hard work too for the six anglers who fished Yarnton & District's match on the canal at Wolvecote, where apart from the cold conditions, there were quite a few boats moving about too.
The only decent fish caught during the match was a 1.6.0 perch taken by George Thomas, who also had some tiddlers, to triumph with 1.6.0. He fished the pole with pinkie on the hook.
Just 11 ounces was enough for second place, Nick Collier using the pole and pinkie, while third with 0.6.0 was Mick Willoughby. He started on the chop, but again it was the humble pinkie that caught.
Points leaders (one match to go): S Cox 36, N Collier 34, G Thomas 22, S Miller 20, T Wright (Predator), B Prior 16.
