When Chinnor won the South West 1 title two years ago, defeating Weston-super-Mare twice in successive March weeks proved the key.

Having comprehensively beaten the same opposition at Kingsey Road on Saturday, they will hope the omens are again in their favour.

Chinnor's seven-try show was a fine effort in wet and windy conditions and means they are now just two victories from winning the title again.

Weston had the wind with them in the first half, but a combination of their flatness and Chinnor's flair saw them trail 22-0 at the break.

Chinnor had shone only in patches before they took the lead on 15 minutes.

Centre Trevor Powell broke through in midfield and the supporting Martyn O'Mahony to put newly-shorn fellow wing Pip Seymour in for an impressive finish on the right.

Weston twice had chances to level, but neither fly half Mark Armstrong nor centre TJ Madamombe could find the scoring pass.

The visitors defended well when Chinnor went for a catch-and-drive on the half hour.

But they shot themselves in the foot when prop Tobias Gukibau was sin-binned for some handbags with Chinnor's Joe Winpenny.

The hosts went for the corner again and this time their rolling maul gathered steam and centre Darren Oxley scored the try, which fly half James Cathcart converted.

Two more tries before the break effectively clinched the game for Chinnor.

Firstly, lock Sam Black burst through the middle and off-loaded for scrum half Owen Gustafson to dive over on the right.

Then after had to repel a series of Weston attacks, Chinnor landed a sucker punch when full back Phil Huxford showed the visiting defence a clean pair of heels.

Huxford went from second to fifth gear in a couple of strides and there was no coming back for Weston.

They did play with more pride in the second half, but lacked the composure to capitalise on good possession.

Instead, Chinnor went further ahead on 55 minutes when a kind bounced allowed Oxley to set up flanker Andrew McGuire for the try his workrate deserved.

Cathcart converted this and rubbed salt into Weston's wounds five minutes later, cantering over after Chinnor attacked from a scrum deep in their own 22.

O'Mahony twice came close to scoring himself, narrowly failing to ground the ball on the second occasion.

But the seventh try came with the final move of the match as replacement Richard Williams latched onto Powell's chip through and showed O'Mahony how to finish.
