Rhys Denton's second-half strike wasn't enough to prevent a depleted Oxford City falling to a 2-1 defeat at title-chasing Northwood in the Allied Counties Premier Division.
Hit by unavailability, City travelled without any substitutes.
They went behind when a speculative shot from 30 yards crashed off their crossbar and Northwood reacted first to score.
The second goal followed soon after as the hosts took charge by half-time.
City hit back right at the start of the second period, however, when Denton reacted first to a poor clearance to crash the ball home from 18 yards.
City's chances of getting something from the game ended when Corey Forbes twisted his knee and, despite attempting to play on, was forced to leave the field, reducing them to ten men.
