Abingdon Utd 3
(Holden 11, Herbert 87, Meade 89)
Thatcham Tn 0
ABINGDON United were flattered by the scoreline as they netted twice in the last three minutes to claim victory over Thatcham Town in Division 1 South & West.
It was becoming a nervy finish for United as Thatcham threw threw players upfield in search of an equaliser.
But with three minutes left, Abingdon counterattacked and Billy Beechers set up the overlapping Micheas Herbert to shoot into the far corner.
Beechers was again the provider as United sealed victory two minutes later, chipping the ball onto substitute Daniel Meade, who netted in similar fashion to Herbert.
From the start, United's lone striker, Luke Holden, had shown he could outpace Thatcham's central defenders, and time and again broke clear.
After 11 minutes, he beat the offside trap, and although his run was wide of goal, he steered his effort beyond Paul Strudley from an acute angle to set Abingdon on their way.
It should have been all square minute later, but Anthony Alleyne shot wide.
Holden then shot straight at the keeper, before Abingdon had a strong penalty appeal waved away.
Keeper Lee Farrow then twice came to Abingdon's rescue, tipped Ollie Oatley's free-kick over the bar, and getting down superbly to turn away a Ryan Williams header.
Abingdon had a flurry of chances before half-time.
Holden drove a shot just past the angle of bar and post, and Ryan Brooks had a shot blocked by Strudley.
Thatcham upped the tempo in the second half, and Joe Harris's volley brought a fine save out of Farrrow.
But Abingdon's late show clinched the points.
