Oli Tsui's rapid progress as a rugby official has seen him appointed a touch judge for next week's Hong Kong Sevens.
The 18-year-old Oxford Brookes University student has only been refereeing for 18 months, but is now preparing for the world's best-known sevens tourn- ament.
Tsui, whose father lives in Hong Kong, said: "I started refereeing because I'm quite small compared to other players and I kept on getting injured.
"It was at the Hong Kong Sevens two years ago that I was introduced the tournament's referee director.
"He said come along to the referee's training session. I did the course and that was where I started.
"I did some refereeing when I was at school at Eton last year and really enjoyed it.
"I was nominated for Hong Kong and then I was selected by the committee."
Tsui, who is studying IT management for business, was a winger in his playing days.
He joined the Oxfordshire referees' society on starting at Brookes and has mainly been refereeing juniors and Oxford college games so far.
