DJAVAN Anderson is getting closer to securing the work permit that will enable him to play for Oxford United.

The deadline day signing attends a meeting today as he seeks the paperwork that allows him to gain employment in the UK.

Anderson, who is eligible to represent Jamaica, Suriname and the Netherlands, completed a permanent move from Italian club Lazio in the final hours of the transfer window.

The right back joined for an undisclosed fee and signed a one-year deal, with the option of a further 12 months.

Anderson has earned the necessary number of Governing Body Endorsement (GBE) points to play in the English Football League (EFL), but cannot represent United until the work permit is granted.

Head coach Karl Robinson said: “He’s having his meeting with the Home Office today to make sure all his papers are correct.

“We have to wait and see how that goes as that’s not a footballing decision, this is an employment decision.

“We’re not different to any other sport or industry, we have to make sure that everything’s done properly.

“This is about making sure he can work and be in this country.”
