Banbury Utd 1 (Gordon 19)

Gloucester City 1 (Reid 70)

Nicky Gordon hit his tenth goal of their Premier Division campaign as Banbury United were held to a draw by high-fliers Gloucester at Spencer Stadium.

And the hosts would have grabbed all the points had it not been for a brilliant display from Gloucester keeper Kevin Sawyer.

Early on, Banbury keeper Andy Wheeler denied Alex Sykes, but it wasn't long before Banbury went ahead, Gordon tucking home the rebound from 12 yards after Sawyer had saved his initial shot.

Gloucester battled back, but Banbury's defence, in which Mark Essex and Ben Milner were outstanding, kept them at bay.

Banbury should have gone further ahead five minutes before the break, when Gordon raced clear of the Gloucester defence, only for his shot to fizz wide.

Gloucester took control and it seemed only a matter of time before they scored.

However, Banbury looked dangerous on the break and Gordon was again denied by Sawyer.

Wheeler kept out Jamie Reid and Jack Pitcher, before Banbury suffered a blow when Craig Pearman was injured.

During his temporary absence, Reid shot past Wheeler for the equaliser.

Gordon twice went close, but Sawyer was equal to his efforts, before substitute Andy Baird slid in ahead of the keeper only to shoot wide of an empty net.

Banbury Utd: Wheeler, Stanbridge (Travers 66), Kinch, Essex, Milner, Fuller, Pearman, Williams, Murphy (Baird 83), Gordon, Scott Bridges. Subs: (not used) Stuart Bridges, Bryan, Sambrook.
