Wallingford's 38-3 victory over Grove in Southern Counties North was soured by a red card for lock Mike Turner after the final whistle.

Former Grove player Turner was sent off for swearing at the referee at the end of a game in which he had been yellow-carded.

Wallingford claimed Grove had targeted Turner, but victory took them to within one point of leaders Olney, who lost at Slough.

The hosts led after two minutes when full back Henry Venners galloped over for a try, which Ralph Smith converted.

Grove replied almost immediately with a penalty from Roger Sevier.

Venners collected a poor clearance to run in try No 2, which Smith also converted.

Wallingford took control in a five-minute period before the break with replacement winger Jackson Sayce and hooker Tom Hill going over.

Turner was sin-binned for handling in the ruck as Grove's forwards maintained their pressure, but they lost Paul Harpwood with a badly cut knee.

Grove were unlucky to be denied a try when No 8 John Smart broke clear only to be called back for a penalty to his own team!

Flanker Carl Alder was stopped just short before Grove scrum half Dave Maryon suffered a leg injury.

Turner returned to the field to crash over from a tapped penalty with Sayce converting.

Wallingford's final score came on 75 minutes when centre Henry Pooler beat Nick Sevier to cross in the corner and Sayce converted.

Witney were undone by a sloppy start to the second half as they lost 19-16 at Swindon.

Swindon strangely decided to run the ball with the wind behind them in the first half.

Witney were looking dangerous in the lose and Henry Lamb and Johnny Wheater countered from deep really well.

Flanker Will Worrall was also asking questions of the home defence and Witney took the lead with a Henry Lamb penalty.

Swindon replied with a converted try, but Witney scored again following a break from fly half Joe Collins.

He off-loaded to centre Carl Strutt, who stretched over.

Swindon's full back slipped between two soft tackles to bag a converted try before half-time.

Trailing 14-8 with the wind now in their favour, Witney struggled to get going and Swindon broke through for what proved the crucial try.

Witney picked up in the final quarter a Henry Lamb penalty reduced the deficit.

Scrum half Gareth Campbell jinked his way into scoring range and showed great strength to finish, but Witney couldn't take any of their remaining chances.
