Halesowen Tn 1 (Pillen 77)
Banbury Utd 2 (Gordon 21, 90)
Nicky Gordon put nearly 48 years of history behind him when scoring a dramatic late winner as Banbury upset Premier Division high-fliers Halesowen on Saturday. The last time Banbury won at The Grove was on October 22, 1960, but Kieran Sullivan's men ripped up the form and history books with a scintillating display. Ben Milner had been recalled to the squad from his self-imposed exile, and proceeded to enjoy his best display of the season. In the second minute, a tackle involving Banbury's new signing Greg Williams and Halesowen's Shane Paul left the latter with a badly-broken leg After a 25-minute delay, Williams felt he could not play on due to the serious nature of the injury and was substituted. This incident affected Halesowen, whose keeper Mark Osborn made a fantastic point blank save from Gordon. Then Gordon opened the scoring in the 21st minute, when he beat two defenders before curling a measured shot over Osborn into the far corner of the net from 15 yards. However, in the 53rd minute Halesowen equalised. A clearance took a wicked deflection, and the ball went to former Spurs player Darren Caskey, who placed it out of the reach of Andy Wheeler. Banbury continued to push forward and they were rewarded in the 90th minute. The on fire' Gordon, again being policed by two defenders and the keeper, managed to wrap his leg around one defender and toe-poke the ball home.
Banbury Utd: Wheeler, Stanbridge, Kinch, Essex, Milner, Fuller, Stuart Bridges, Williams (Gooderick 2), Murphy, Gordon, Scott Bridges. Subs not used: Bryan, Baird, Sambrook, McKay.
