CHINNOR finished pre-season with a commanding 40-17 victory over Worthing Raiders as they scored six tries at Kingsey Road.
Jack Walsh, Keston Lines, Ben Manning, Nick Smith, Max Heathman and Kieran Goss crossed for the National 1 side as they got the better of their National 2 East visitors.
After a 29-14 win over Blackheath the week before, it means the Thame-based club head into Saturday’s season-opener at Darlington Mowden Park full of confidence.
Chinnor opened the scoring in the second minute when scrum-half Walsh dived over from close range following a patient driving maul.
Worthing quickly replied through Dan Sargent, but the home side were clinical and they went onto lead 21-5 after 16 minutes with Lines and Manning forcing their way over.
Full-back Smith added try number four and that was sandwiched by scores from Harrison Sims and Zach Carr as Chinnor moved 28-17 ahead after an entertaining 40 minutes.
In comparison, the second half proved to be a little disjointed, but the home side defended well and added two further tries.
With Worthing’s Will Hoare in the sin bin, there was no stopping a powerful Chinnor driving maul on 65 minutes and Heathman crashed over.
Goss then capitalised on an error to run in the hosts’ final score, with Will Kelly, who converted five of the six tries, adding the extras.
Elsewhere, Banbury Bulls secured an impressive 26-19 win at Bromsgrove where the only downside was a nasty ankle injury for Dan Tooth.
The north Oxfordshire side host Havant in their Regional 1 South Central opener on Saturday.
