DOLPHIN B kept up their bid for the Section 2 championship with a 5-0 hammering of Headington Conservative Club, writes PETE EWINS.

Adam Thorn (7,190) got them off to a flier in the opener, with victories for Chris Storch (7,940) Paul Butcher (5,200) Chris Ellam (4,750) and Mellisa Standbridge - who notched up her best ever league score of 8,200 - ensuring a whitewash.

Leaders Berinsfield Club hammered Corner House B 5-0 at home.

There were wins for Dave Lyne (6,690), Eddie Tebby (4,000) Geoff Mace (8,970) Billy Howard (2,650) and Craig Mace (5,550).

Shelley Arms came from behind to win 3-2 at Gladiators B.

Trailing 2-0 through wins from Wilf Tuffin and Neil Cunliffe, Martin Coulthard (2,540) Graham Moon (2,590) and John Irvine (2,450) hit back for victory.

Premier Section leaders Nelson A won 5-0 win against Section 1 side Masons A.

Keith Sheard (13,080, break 6,000 x2), Pauline Withey (7,350, break 7,300), Steven Sheard (9,600, break 9,740) and Ray Sturgess (12,540, break 8,480).

Second-placed Horse & Harrow won 5-0 at Democrats. Ian Moquet (15,960, break 10,550), Paul Lawson (8,740) and (3,650) Pete Lee (3,790) and skipper Gary Johnson (13990, break 12,100) secured the points. Corner House A dented Section 1 leaders Portcullis's title ambitions with a 4-1 victory.

Alan Oliver (7,250) won the first, only for Mick Shephard to level.

However, wins from Mike Jones (14,220, break 10,220), Alan Lacey (4,080 and Ian Moss (8,490) saw Corner House ease to victory. Joint leaders Masons B eased to a 3-2 success against Dolphin. Dave Butt (7,430) and Chris Webb (9,000, break 8,000) gave Masons a 2-0 lead. Although Martin Atkins (10,020, break 7,800) pulled a game back, Ernie Smith (10,280, break 7,000) made it 3-1. Simon Ellam (10,610) then hit back for Dolphin's second point.

After losing 3-2 against Witney, with Jenny Abbott (3,990) and Sarah Maconachie (1,900) the winners for Oxford.

And after losing their first game against Wycombe, they stormed back to win 4-1, with victories from Sandra Tebby (2,130) Sue Atkins (2,380) Pauline Withey (9,110) and Jenny Abbott (2,460).

They wrapped it up with a 4-1 mauling of Reading, with wins from Sandra Tebby (2,160) Sue Atkins (2,650) Pauline Withey (8,270) and Jenny Abbott (3,590). Pauline Withey (6,970) hit the highest break.
