Didcot Tn 5 (Odhiambo 14, 42, Vine 16, King 31 pen, Parrott 88)

Godalming 0

Didcot stormed back to the top of the Division 1 South & West table with a five-goal thrashing of in-form Godalming at Loop Meadow Stadium on Saturday.

o While the leading two clubs, Fleet Town and Farnborough, were losing, Didcot were crushing a side who had overturned Fleet in midweek.

The match was settled as a contest by half-time as Didcot scored four unanswered goals.

And such was the home side's dominance before the break, Godalming were probably relieved that the scoreline was not worse.

Playing with the advantage of a stiff breeze behind them, Didcot took charge with two goals in three minutes around the quarter-hour mark.

It was from a short corner routine that Anaclet Odhiambo slid home the opening goal.

In Didcot's next attack the lead was doubled. Once again it was Matt Bicknell who crossed into the area. After a couple of blocked efforts the ball fell to Ashley Vine, who scored with a low left-foot shot.

Godalming looked shell-shocked. Unfortunately, the visitors also began to show a more cynical side, and both Liam Hope and Odhiambo were on the end of a couple of fierce challenges.

Jack King was instrumental in most of the home side's attack, which came thick and fast.

The third goal arrived in the 31st minute. Vine was hauled back in the penalty box by Godalming's Richard Taylor as he tried to get on the end of Bicknell's free- kick.

The referee booked Taylor, and King thumped home the spot-kick, sending keeper Matt Mann the wrong way.

Didcot's grasp on the game got even stronger three minutes before the break.

Godalming defender Chris Wales's back-pass was intercepted by Odhiambo, and after rounding the keeper, he made no mistake with a shot that just crept over the line.

There was a marked improvement in Godalming after half-time, when Maz Ahmed should have scored from a good position.

Following a forgettable period, littered with free-kicks, the home side rounded off proceedings with a terrific goal.

Andy Parrott beat two defenders on the edge of the box before scoring with a low shot past Mann.
