Local matchmen felt the big freeze on Sunday as the effect of some heavy frosts took its toll. It was a case of waiting for the odd bite and making the most of it.
In fact, two matches were won by single fish.
One water that did produce good sport was Lower Court, where Paul Dann won the sixth match of the Oxford Carp Winter League.
Despite having to break the ice, he weighed 77.8.0 of carp on maggot and caster, fished at 13 metres on the pole.
Gary Keetley was second with 56.12.0 of carp on maggot and pole, followed by Steve Bartrum with 42.4.0 on pellet.
North Oxford AC fished the Cherwell at the Marston Link Road where seven turned up, but only a single fish was caught, a 4.9.0 chub by John Coleman which earned him £63 on the pools.
Just before the final whistle, Julian Humm hooked a chub on float, but his hook pulled out.
Sutton Courtenay AC's Hewer Challenge Cup was also decided by a single fish.
Gary Stafford landed a 2lb chub to take first place on the Appleford Reach at Sutton Courtenay.
Kidlington AS were on an iced-over Oxford Canal at Grovelands and weights were low.
Terry Lester found 1.8.8 of gudgeon and roach on pole and breadpunch to emerge the winner.
Jeff Chandler had a mixed bag of 12 ounces on pole and maggot for second, followed by Paul Jackman with 0.10.0 of small roach.
Pairs winners: Terry Lester & Phil Blackman 1.8.8.
Witney AS also had to break the ice at Abbey Lake, Leamington, where Marc Davies caught small roach and rudd on feeder with red maggot for a winning 1.0.0.
One small carp and few tiny rudd on pole and waggler gave Dean Bowerman second place with 0.11.4, followed by Graham Wilsdon with 0.6.8 on feeder.
Overall winner: Dean Bowerman 115pts, 2 Phil Weston 102, 3 Martin Avons 93, 4 Brian Bowerman 76.
Didcot AS enjoyed better fortune at Hurst Club, where the 11 competitors caught some decent fish.
