MARLEY Churcher has the British Bareknuckle Boxing Championship belt to put alongside his boxing medals after a sensational victory in London.
The Oxford fighter was a top amateur and unbeaten pro-gloved professional boxer before deciding to join the growing bareknuckle boxing circuit.
Churcher was matched with Gavin Curragh for the vacant British welterweight title – and stopped him in the second round.
After outclassing his opponent at a sold-out O2 Arena, he roared: “I want to be world champion.”
The Oxfordshire boxer was simply too good for the Barnet fighter, dominating the opening round with his classy jab.
Curragh quickened his feet at the start of the second, but barely landed a fist on Churcher and showed his frustration with rabbit punches that forced the referee to take a point off his tally.
The scorecards would not be needed, however.
Churcher connected with a pinpoint right hand that sliced open a cut on Curragh’s left eyebrow and the referee waved the fight off.
Reflecting on his victory, the Oxford fighter said: “This belt will be put alongside the medals I won when I boxed for England.
“This means so much to me and I want to thank everyone for coming along and supporting me.”
