ANTHONY Forde has left Oxford United for Vanarama National League side Wrexham.

The versatile Irishman joins the big-spending Welsh club for an undisclosed fee.

Forde spent three seasons with the U’s following his arrival from Rotherham United in summer 2019, scoring four goals in 93 games.

The 28-year-old played in several positions during his time at United, eventually settling at right back.

U's head coach Karl Robinson said: “He’s been a brilliant servant and a tremendous young man.

"Even speaking to him this morning you know you’re losing a good character, but he has to look after himself as well.

"It’s part of the business. This has been a two-week process, so we’ve been able to plan, and that’s what we’re thankful to his new club for.”

The former Republic of Ireland Under 21 international featured most regularly in the 2020/21 campaign, making 45 appearances.

Forde signed a one-year contract last summer and played just 18 times in 2021/22, although he agreed another one-year deal in March.

Wrexham have made several eye-catching signings since they were bought by Hollywood actors Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney in 2020.

They signed former U’s loanee Elliot Lee earlier this summer following his release by Sky Bet Championship club Luton Town.

Wrexham finished second in the National League last season, losing to Grimsby Town in the play-off semi-finals.
