Another 793 were immediately released and they have gone in just five days ahead of the club’s first visit to Pride Park.
United are putting together a waiting list for tickets returned before Saturday, with more information available from the club's ticket office number of 01865 337533.
The U’s will be backed by their highest away attendance since 3,710 fans travelled to Newcastle United for an Emirates FA Cup fourth round tie in January 2020.
Tickets are also selling fast in the home sections of Pride Park, raising hopes of a 30,000-plus crowd on Saturday.
