Chinnor made hard work of beating Old Patesians 20-10 as they slipped to second in South West 1 on points difference.
The hosts led 20-0 at the break, but lacked focus in the second half.
Chinnor took the lead on seven minutes when full back Ben Hewitt entered the line at pace and broke through to score unopposed.
Fly half James Cathcart converted from the touchline and added two long-range penalties, sustaining a thigh injury as he notched the second.
Chinnor were finding it difficult to inject any cohesive pattern to their game, with sloppy handling and a litany of handling errors not helping.
They did, however, add to their lead in the 35th minute with skipper Matt Hutchings going over from a rolling maul and Hewitt converting.
The second half, from a Chinnor perspective, became increasingly frustrating.
Patesians, with flanker Gareth Betteridge and fly half Adam Seager showing well, got a sniff that their cause was not lost.
Tries by Mathew Shayle and Andrew Tew were well deserved, but neither was converted Had Seager been less wayward with his kicking - he missed a penalty in front of the posts - the game could have got quite tense in the closing stages.
