Henley Hawks secured their first league win since November with a 21-15 victory at Halifax in National 2.
But with Wharfedale also winning, Hawks are no nearer safety.
Henley missed a good opportunity when hooker Liam Wordley's pass fell short of No 8 Dave Archer.
Centre Danny Wells hit a post with a straight-forward penalty, but Hawks finally took the lead.
Wings Chris Simmons and Mark Odejobi combined at pace, with the former scoring and Wells converting.
Ben Mitchell and Joe Knowles went close before the break, but Hawks scored next when lock Rob Hurrell's burst allowed Wells to touch down.
Fly half Jim Farndon converted, but Henley relaxed and saw Hurrell sin-binned for foul play.
Halifax No 8 Matt Harrison bagged a pushover try, which Knowles converted.
Two minutes later, David Hall made it 14-12 after touching down in the corner.
Henley hit back when an excellent break from flanker Matt Payne set up a maul, with Odejobi scoring and Farndon converting.
The home pressure increased when Henley replacement prop Rowan Fuller was yellow-carded for dragging down a scrum and Knowles converted the subsequent penalty, but Hawks held on.
Their next two fixtures, against leaders Otley and promotion-chasing Manchester, could be make or break.
