KARL Robinson says all of his senior goalkeepers at Oxford United are at the club to play, following the acquisition of Ed McGinty.

The stopper arrived from League of Ireland Premier Division side Sligo Rovers on Thursday, joining Jack Stevens and Simon Eastwood at the club.

U’s boss Robinson is pleased with the balance of keepers at United, in terms of their age – McGinty is 23 at the beginning of August, Stevens turns 25 a week on Tuesday, and Eastwood turned 33 last month.

On the deal for McGinty, Robinson said: “It wasn’t part of the plan. We have a structure and a process that we stick to at this football club, this came up very late on.

“We all looked at him and did a bit of work on him.”

United’s head coach added: “He’s been excellent in training.

“He’s 22 years of age and has got a very good future.

“Ed fits an awful lot of the key credentials that we’re looking for.

“He’s here to play, all three of them are.”

Another incoming at United last week was winger Yanic Wildschut, who joined from Bulgarian side CSKA Sofia.

The 30-year-old was subbed off with a hamstring complaint less than 20 minutes after coming on as a second half substitute in the goalless draw with AFC Wimbledon.

Robinson is excited to work with the Suriname international though.

He said: “His power and his athleticism is incredible.

“He became available late on, to have him here is a real coup for us.”
