Billy Turley said he felt confident of saving both penalties at the Kassam Stadium on Saturday because of the Histon players' run-ups when they took them.

It was the first time in his career that the Oxford United goalkeeper had saved two spot-kicks in one game, and he was thrilled that his teammates took full advantage by banging in three goals at the other end.

"I don't know why, I just felt really confident today with the penalties," he said afterwards.

"I just knew by the way they ran up where they were going.

"I saved the second one and I was just laughing at Greeny (Matt Green) because he was laughing his head off, with his arms in the air.

"I've never saved two pens in one game before. I was close to it at Southend in the FA Cup.

"That was exactly the same scenario where I saved it and then someone gave another one away.

"It was a great personal thing for me, but the most important thing is the three points, and the performance today.

"I've saved a couple of pens, but what I'm pleased about is that we've gone on and scored three goals.

"I've had a few games this year where I've made a few saves and we've got a draw, or we haven't scored any, and that takes the edge off it.

"I'm so pleased for the lads. We've worked so hard in training.

"We worked really hard last Friday before the weekend off when the gaffer ran the socks off us. I'm so pleased because you can actually see that what we're working at in training is actually coming out on the pitch."

Turley paid tribute to the workrate of strikers Green and Justin Richards as United defended from the front to help earn another clean sheet at home.

He said: "The strikers are working the channels, competing well for balls and, no disrespect to the strikers who were here, but sometimes before we weren't having that.

"I'm a great believer in - and I've got it written down in the kitchen at home - the harder you work, the luckier you get.

"I really believe that and the lads worked hard. Greeny worked hard and got his reward with two goals."
