OXFORD United have appointed Grant Ferguson as a director.

The 60-year-old was on the board at Italian giants Inter Milan from 2014 to 2017, during U’s backer Erick Thohir’s time as chairman.

Ferguson, whose country of residence is listed as Malaysia on Companies House, is a chartered accountant and has held senior positions in telecommunications across Asia.

He joins chairman Sumrith ‘Tiger’ Thanakarnjanasuth, Anindya Bakrie and Horst Geicke on the board.

Ferguson told the club's official website: “I am very proud to formally become part of the board at Oxford United and want to thank the board, Karl, staff and the players for the warm welcome I have received.

"It’s a fantastic club in one of the most famous cities in the world and we all share the same ambition: to get the club to where it belongs.

“I have been around the club for some time now, working behind the scenes, getting to know people and seeing how it works.

"I am really impressed with the foundations that are in place and confident about the potential of the club.

"I am now looking forward to catching up with supporter groups and meeting fans at matches and events over the coming weeks.

“It’s an honour to represent Oxford United and all I can promise in return is to be open, approachable and to match the tremendous work ethic that I already see throughout the club.”

Ferguson was on the board at Inter with Thohir, who stepped down as a U’s director in October 2019 when he was appointed Indonesia’s State-owned Enterprises Minister. He continues to play a background role.

United are in the process of a change of ownership which would see Indonesia investors Bakrie and Thohir take control of the club along with their associates, among them Geicke.

The group are already heavily involved with the U’s and have given head coach Karl Robinson an increased budget for the 2022/23 season.

Tiger is expected to continue as a minority shareholder when the ownership change is complete.
