CAMERON Brannagan has been named in the Professional Footballers’ Association League One Team of the Year.

The Oxford United midfielder received recognition from his peers after an excellent 2021/22 season.

Brannagan scored 14 goals in 41 Sky Bet League One games, with highlights including an astonishing four penalties at Gillingham in January and a late thunderbolt against Portsmouth one week later.

The 26-year-old was one of three midfielders selected in the team of the year, alongside Sheffield Wednesday captain Barry Bannan and MK Dons star Scott Twine.

Nine clubs were represented in the League One XI after an ultra-competitive promotion race, which saw United finish eighth with 76 points.

Champions Wigan Athletic and MK were the only teams with two representatives. Centre back Jack Whatmough and top-scorer Will Keane were selected from the Latics squad, while defender Harry Darling joined Twine in making the cut.

It is the third time in a row United have been represented in the League One team of the year, with Brannagan and Rob Dickie getting the nod in 2020.

Rob Atkinson was named in the XI in 2020/21 after the U’s reached the play-offs for the second successive campaign.
