THE Oxford Mail player ratings from Oxford United’s 2-0 defeat at Accrington Stanley in Sky Bet League One.
JACK STEVENS
Could not do much about either goal. Made a couple of smart saves, particularly towards the end when the hosts looked dangerous on the counter-attack. Kicking was a little inconsistent – 6.5
ANTHONY FORDE
Tough game to make his first start for nearly two months. Started okay, but McConville got the better of him as the match went on. Set-pieces were generally good – 5.5
ELLIOTT MOORE
Could have scored from a corner in the first half and handled anything in the air well. Passing was a little off and got away with one when he conceded possession in a dangerous area after the break – 6
CIARON BROWN
Also won a lot of headers and made a couple of good challenges. Could be more adventurous in possession. His injury is a worry with United’s lack of left-sided cover – 5.5
STEVE SEDDON
Some good pieces of defending, but there were some costly errors. He headed it straight to O’Sullivan for the opener and gave the ball away when McConville should have made it 2-0 – 5
HERBIE KANE
Saw plenty of the ball, but he was unable to cause much damage. One lovely pass for an offside Taylor in the first half. Accrington won the midfield battle – 5
Karl Robinson: There were some 'under-par performances'
MARCUS MCGUANE
Started strongly again, with some driving runs and neat one-touch passing. Faded as the hosts took control and he was replaced shortly after the break – 5.5
RYAN WILLIAMS
Bent an effort just wide in the first half. With his energy he was an obvious candidate for wing back when United switched formation and he worked hard defensively. BOOKED – 6
CAMERON BRANNAGAN
Involved in a lot of United’s best stuff in the first half, including the through ball for Taylor’s shot that was cleared off the line. Quieter after the break, but set up Winnall’s late chance. BOOKED – 5.5
NATHAN HOLLAND
Another quiet game punctuated with moments of quality. Involved in the build-up to his first-half effort that was pushed away by Savin, was unlucky to see another effort blocked – 5.5

MATTY TAYLOR
Even he will not understand how he did not convert that late chance. Unlucky to see an effort cleared off the line in the first half, Accrington’s centre backs kept him quiet otherwise – 4.5
SUBSTITUTES
Sam Winnall (for Holland, 55)
Tried to get involved and flashed a couple of cross-shots across the face of goal – 4.5
Mark Sykes (for McGuane, 55)
Added some impetus when he came on and worried the home defence. Decision-making could have been better. MAN OF THE MATCH – 6.5
Sam Baldock (for Brown, 67)
Used his pace to get in behind a couple of times. Pleasing to see him up to speed so quickly – 6.5
Unused: Eastwood, Mousinho, Bodin, Whyte.
