THE FA has launched an investigation into Saturday’s fiery clash between Oxford United and Portsmouth.

The Sky Bet League One fixture featured 11 bookings and a red card for Pompey midfielder Joe Morrell, as well as a 15-minute delay to the second half following a medical incident in the tunnel during the break.

The FA has confirmed to the Oxford Mail it is investigating matters arising out of the game and will reveal its findings ‘in due course’.

The governing body has not confirmed exactly what aspect of the fixture it is looking into.

United won the match 3-2, thanks to late goals from Cameron Brannagan and Nathan Holland.

Meanwhile, Pompey are set to be fined £2,500 after collecting seven yellow cards during the match, with United picking up four.

The south coast club are appealing Morrell’s dismissal, which was awarded after the Welshman raised his foot towards Brannagan’s face in a 16th-minute challenge.

Karl Robinson later admitted the decision was borderline, while a furious Danny Cowley accused referee Samuel Barrott of ‘guessing’.

The Portsmouth manager added that the half-time delay came after a member of U’s staff fell and hit his head.

United later released a statement, writing: "There was a situation that required medical attention in the tunnel area.

"We thank the medical services for their swift response and the match referee who asked both teams to remain in their changing rooms to allow the paramedics room to check that all was well.

"We would also like to thank fans of both teams for their patience while the second half was delayed."
