THE Oxford Mail player ratings for Oxford United’s 3-2 win over Portsmouth in Sky Bet League One.
JACK STEVENS
Probably the quietest afternoon he will have all season, so the goalkeeper must be wondering how he conceded twice as poor defending let Portsmouth in for both goals. Stevens’ only other contribution was a good save from Hirst – 6
LUKE MCNALLY
Becoming a real threat from set-pieces, not just scoring but going close on a few other occasions. Looking more confident on the ball, although should have done better in the tackle for Portsmouth’s second goal – 7.5
ELLIOTT MOORE
Arguably should have stopped Curtis at the byline for Pompey’s equaliser, while a late miscommunication with Stevens could have proved costly. Other than that he did very little wrong - dominated in the air and distribution was good. BOOKED – 7
CIARON BROWN
Started a little shakily but did okay. Beaten to the header for the equaliser, was otherwise strong aerially and moved the ball well. His long throws will offer United a different dimension – 6.5
RYAN WILLIAMS
Outstanding in the first half, especially considering he was getting stick from the away fans a matter of metres away from him. Sacrificed just after the break to get Winnall on – 7.5
MARK SYKES
Link-up play was excellent before the break, particularly with Williams and Bodin. Moved wider as United chased the game and consistently worried the Pompey defence. End product could have been better – 8

HERBIE KANE
The sending-off gave him the freedom to anchor the midfield and pick passes as the visitors sat off. One delicious through ball for Brannagan in the first half. BOOKED – 7
CAMERON BRANNAGAN
What a week for United’s man of the moment. His goal was some strike and he deserved it for a never-say-die performance. Brannagan got stuck in as the game got niggly, while he continued to want the ball even when the U’s looked short of ideas. BOOKED, MAN OF THE MATCH – 8.5
STEVE SEDDON
Wing back suits him and he was up and down the flank, but a couple of lapses in concentration overshadowed his display. Seddon let Freeman run off him for Pompey’s first goal and was out of position for the second. BOOKED – 5.5
BILLY BODIN
Another day, another assist from a set-piece. United look like a threat from corners again, thanks to Bodin’s delivery. Think the central role is his best position and there were some lovely touches to work opportunities for his teammates – 7
MATTY TAYLOR
Not as involved as you would have expected, given his side’s dominance. One first-half flick that did not quite come off was as close as he came. Worked hard – 6
