THE Oxford Mail player ratings for Oxford United’s 3-0 victory over AFC Wimbledon in Sky Bet League One.

SIMON EASTWOOD

Made two straightforward saves late on, plus one great reaction stop moments after the offside flag went up. Needs more of the same with Stevens back on the bench – 7

SAM LONG

Exactly a year after the ‘Oxford Cafu’ nickname was born at Plymouth Argyle, the right back produced a similarly marauding performance. Wimbledon could not live with his runs from deep, Long scored a great goal and his delivery was excellent – 9

ELLIOTT MOORE

Showed great composure in possession, whether that was bringing the ball out from the back or upping the tempo with quick passes. Defensively sound and unlucky to get a yellow card. BOOKED – 8

JORDAN THORNILEY

His trademark raking diagonal passes were yet another weapon in United’s armoury. Looked to be coasting all game, but won important headers when needed – 8

STEVE SEDDON

His link-up play with Williams was excellent all night. Sometimes simplicity was key, on other occasions he produced lofted passes in behind. Wimbledon gave him freedom to attack and paid the price – 8

MARK SYKES

A man transformed in front of goal, his finish for the opener was as cool as you like. Movement and vision helped unlock the visiting defence time and again, while nobody on the pitch made more than his five tackles. MAN OF THE MATCH – 9

HERBIE KANE

Does not contribute many goals or assists, yet he is United’s most important player. Made more passes than anyone else and invariably picked the right option. Quickens the tempo like few players at this level. BOOKED – 9

CAMERON BRANNAGAN

Showed no signs of rustiness in his first game back and was soon dominating midfield. His touch, turn and shot in the first half was next level and deserved a goal. No surprise it came from Kane’s pass – 9

GAVIN WHYTE

Grabbed his second and third assists in two games. Both were real quality, first setting up Taylor and then picking out Long. Got in behind time and again, the only thing missing was the goal – 8.5

MATTY TAYLOR

His red-hot form continues and on another night he could have had a hat-trick. Held the ball up well, linked the play and found the net twice, although one was disallowed – 9

RYAN WILLIAMS

He has marked his return to the starting line-up with two excellent performances. Showed great composure to cut the cross back to Sykes for the opener and almost always made the right decision – 9
