FOR the third year in four, an Oxford skater has been crowned the British advanced novice girls champion.
Lowenna Prigg finished first out of a group of 19 skaters to claim the accolade this year, after skaters and coaches from Oxford Ice Rink attended the British Figure Skating Championships in Sheffield earlier this month.
Prigg’s title was won the previous occasion the championships were held, by Arabella Sear-Watkins, and by Miesha Cooke Smith two years prior.

There were 19 qualifying places taken by Oxford skaters, below are the results in full:
• Basic novice girls (Kamile Mickevicute 14th, Leah Coley 33rd, Alexa Hollyhead 39th)
• Basic novice pairs (Lily Smythe and Oliver Raikes, 1st)
• Intermediate novice girls (Ruby Lin 8th, Natasha Baillie 11th)
• Intermediate novice boys (Oliver Raikes, 3rd)
• Advanced novice girls (Lowenna Prigg, 1st)
• Advanced novice boys (Gregor Jeffery, 4th)
• Advanced novice pairs (Leah Coley and Jacob Casey, 2nd)
• Junior women (Arabella Sear-Watkins 4th, Halah Thomas 6th, Ciera Turner-Frick 16th)
• Junior men (Brandon Bailey, 4th)
• Senior women (Bethan Whiteman, 7th)
• Senior pairs (Lydia Smart and Harry Mattick, 3rd).
Oxford Skate School coordinator, Jane de Lange said: “We’re so proud of all the skaters who took part in the championships.
“They all performed brilliantly, and we were delighted with the medals won too.”
Oxford Ice Rink will be closed on January 5 and 6 to allow for essential maintenance.
The ice rink will also be closed on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day.
