THE Oxford Mail player ratings for Oxford United’s 3-2 defeat to Wigan Athletic in Sky Bet League One.
SIMON EASTWOOD
Commanded his area well and made a good save from Lang in the second half. Might be nitpicking, but could he have got down quicker for the winner? – 6.5
ANTHONY FORDE
Excellent going forward all game – his touch and cross for Taylor’s goal was pure class. Did well against the dangerous McClean, too, although he was dragged out of position for the winger's strike. MAN OF THE MATCH – 8.5
ELLIOTT MOORE
A captain’s performance. Dominant in the air, plus crucial blocks in each half from Lang and McClean. Gave everything he could – 8
SAM LONG
Another solid display at centre back. Coped well with Wigan’s aerial threat and his body language surely rubbed off on those around him – 7.5
STEVE SEDDON
Poor header led to Wigan’s second goal, but otherwise kept Massey fairly quiet. High positioning helped push the visitors back and keep United in the ascendancy – 7
MARK SYKES
Began like a man possessed and maintained that high-energy start for much of the game. Some lovely link-up play in tight areas – 8

MARCUS MCGUANE
An unfamiliar role, but he adapted well after a shaky start. Comfortable on the ball and took the fight to an experienced Wigan midfield. BOOKED – 7
BILLY BODIN
His last-minute inclusion meant he understandably took a bit of time to get into the game. Improved as the contest went on and showed some lovely touches – 7
GAVIN WHYTE
His end product has been criticised in recent weeks, but he made the right decision more often than not. Linked well with those around him, claimed an assist for Williams’s goal and should have had another for Taylor’s miss – 8

MATTY TAYLOR
Did not let his first-half chance affect him, as he scored his tenth goal in 14 matches. Hold-up play was excellent again, while he gave Wigan’s strong centre-back pairing a real game. BOOKED – 8
RYAN WILLIAMS
Took his goal brilliantly and showed how much he offers in terms of versatility. His defensive ability is underrated, making him a real asset to the squad – 8
SUBSTITUTES
Dan Agyei (for Bodin, 77)
Unused: Plumley, Golding, Mousinho, Davis.
Substitutes who come on after the 75th minute do not get a rating.
