JAMES Henry reflected on another match-winning contribution off the bench after his late strike gave Oxford United victory at Doncaster Rovers.

The midfielder, who replaced Cameron Brannagan at half-time, fired into the top corner with three minutes left to secure a 2-1 win for the U’s.

It was the 32-year-old’s fifth strike against Doncaster in a yellow shirt and followed his even later goal at Sheffield Wednesday in October, which handed United victory by the same scoreline.

More importantly, it sent Karl Robinson’s side fifth in Sky Bet League One.

“I just hit it first time and hoped for the best, luckily it went in the top corner”, Henry said.

“All you can do is prepare to come on and try to have an effect on the game.

“Luckily I managed to do that, for the better in the end.

“Credit to the fans who have come all this way on a cold and windy Tuesday night and backed us all the way.”

United are now eight matches unbeaten in League One, but they made hard work of it against managerless Doncaster, who are now bottom of the table.

They dominated the first half and went ahead through Mark Sykes’s strike, only for the hosts to rally after the break.

Branden Horton equalised with 16 minutes left, but United responded well and Henry’s seventh goal of the season sealed the points.

He said: “We started the game brilliantly and we just got a little bit sloppy.

“We didn’t capitalise on the areas we got into, they got a bit of momentum.

“We had a couple chalked off for offside and thought it might be one of those nights, but luckily we got out with three points.”

U’s head coach Robinson joked: “I told him he wasn’t playing and he was disappointed, but the last time he came on as a sub he scored the winner.

“Maybe he needs to realise that I think about little things like that.”
