IT is set to be a quiet few days at Oxford United – but the work continues for Karl Robinson.
U’s players and first-team staff have time off in the early part of this week, with no game until Sunday’s Emirates FA Cup first round tie against Bristol Rovers.
But Robinson intends to go to matches tomorrow and Wednesday, before planning for the January transfer window continues on Thursday.
Steve Seddon: We're finding a way to win games
The U’s head coach said: “We’re going to have a bit of a break now, the staff have worked around the clock so they deserve it.
“I’ll be the only one in for a few days.
“I’ve got a few games planned this week, Charlton play Rotherham on Tuesday night, our youth team at Oxford City on Wednesday.
“We’ve got a few meetings on Thursday.
“We’re entering November, eight weeks from the window opening so there’s a lot of work to be done.
“The top teams in this league, when you’re doing well you have to jump.
“That’s the objective: to move forwards steadily and don’t be silly in the window.”
The verdict: Oxford United had to deliver on important day for the club
United may look to strengthen their strike force in the window, with Sam Winnall and Dan Agyei the only back-up for Matty Taylor.
The club’s recruitment department has studied this area and Robinson revealed some surprising results.
He said: “I think the goal ratio is the worst of any time of the year.
“Very few strikers come in in January and make a big difference, even though everyone craves them.
“Our recruitment team do an awful lot of studies on probabilities, ratios, where people score goals from, where people suit certain players and how we match that up.”
