DRONE footage will give Karl Robinson a bird’s-eye view of today’s Oxford United training session.

The U’s head coach is self-isolating following a positive PCR test for coronavirus, which will see him miss the next two matches.

Assistant manager Craig Short, club captain John Mousinho and first-team coach Leon Blackmore-Such take training today as United prepare for Saturday’s Sky Bet League One trip to Burton Albion.

But the wonders of modern technology mean Robinson will be able to watch the session later, thanks to a drone camera recording from above.

It means the players cannot drop their levels, but Mousinho is not concerned about that.

The skipper said: “It’s the beauty of technology - we’re going to have the drone up there and the manager’s going to go over it with a fine-tooth comb later on this evening.

“There’s going to be nowhere to hide.

“The players train really well when the manager’s absent for any reason, so I don’t think we’ll have an issue.

“The lads know they’ve got a job on their hands and the level of professionalism in the dressing room means they’re going to train hard and take it into Saturday.”

The drone is nothing new for United, who have long taken advantage of this unique view of training.

Mousinho added: “The footage of all the training sessions are uploaded onto players’ mobile phones and laptops straight after the session.

“They can feed back on their own performance and there’s a few technical details that we like to look at, which you can’t necessarily see unless you have that bird’s-eye view.

“The drone has been a really invaluable tool over the last couple of years, it’s something we use in the office and something the players use quite a bit.

“It’s just another technological advancement that helps the players.”
