WHEN Wycombe Wanderers last visited the Kassam Stadium, the world was a very different place.

James Henry’s goal gave Oxford United a 1-0 win on December 21, 2019, when we had no idea Covid would soon turn our lives upside down.

Wycombe started the day seven points clear at the top of Sky Bet League One, while the U’s were eighth – the place they sit going into Saturday’s game.

Yet there was still a view in some quarters that Gareth Ainsworth’s side were in a false position and the natural order would soon be restored.

Points per game pushed The Chairboys into the play-offs and they were outsiders against United in the final, but again they grasped the opportunity.

Wycombe were relegated from the Sky Bet Championship at the first attempt, although a late surge would have saved them if it had started a week earlier.

Still, few people had them down as promotion front-runners this season – I certainly did not – even after recruiting well in the summer.

Once again, though, Wycombe have proved people wrong by starting the season well and are one place above the U's, with a game in hand.

Ainsworth relishes the club's underdog status, so it suits them just fine.

But in a world where everything else has changed since the The Chairboys last came to Grenoble Road, they are still being underestimated.
