NEW Oxford United goalkeeper, 18-year-old Mackenzie Chapman, is one for the future says Karl Robinson.

United announced the signing of Chapman on Friday, after spending last season at Oldham Athletic, where he made his senior debut.

The teenager initially started out at Accrington Stanley from under 8s to under 11s, before moving to Burnley.

He then joined Manchester United for the first year of his scholarship, before joining Oldham where he was reserve goalkeeper for much of last season.

Robinson said: “It’s one for the future, we always wanted three young goalkeepers and we’ve got those in the academy as well.

“It’s a case of having more goalkeepers around, to build that bridge between first team and youth team.

“He’s a lovely young man, he works really hard and is a tremendous example to the young people coming through.”

Chapman told the U’s website: “Last season was great for me at Oldham being in and around the first team and then making my first team debut.

“It’s not easy for a young goalkeeper to get that experience but I enjoyed it.

“I came down to Oxford a couple of weeks ago and knew it was where I wanted to come next.

“Wayne Brown is a really good coach, and Simon Eastwood and Jack Stevens have been great with me, really helpful.

“There are some good goalkeepers here already but we will work together each day, keep pushing each other on and it’s a really good opportunity for me, one I am determined to make the most of.”
