STEVENTON'S Jordanne Whiley could not claim a third French Open title as she tasted defeat in the women's wheelchair doubles final.
The 28-year-old and partner Yui Kamiji lost 6-3, 6-4 to Dutch top seeds Diede de Groot and Aniek van Koot at Roland Garros this afternoon.
Momentum swung back and forth in the first set, as four successive breaks in the opening six games left the rivals locked at 3-3.
But defending champions de Groot and van Koot took control and a break in the eighth game proved decisive.
The pattern continued in the second set, with neither pair able to hold their serve in any of the first nine games.
Whiley and Kamiji had a break point to take the set to 5-5, but they could not make it count and their opponents closed out victory.
The Oxfordshire player and her partner had beaten Colombian Angelica Bernal and France's Emmanuelle Morch 6-0, 6-3 in the semi-finals.
Whiley, a 12-time Grand Slam winner, lost to Kamiji 2-6, 1-6 in the singles quarter-finals.
