KIERAN Bird is targeting a successful summer after he was selected for the Olympics.
The Bicester swimmer has been added to the Team GB squad for the postponed Tokyo Games, which starts in July.
It comes after the 21-year-old won the 400m freestyle at the British trials and swam under the consideration time.
Bird, who lives and trains in Bath, was a member of Bicester Blue Fins as a youngster and attended The Cooper School in the north Oxfordshire town.
He only received official confirmation of his seat on the plane when the squad was announced on Tuesday.
But Bird’s performance at the British trials all-but secured his place, enabling the feeling to sink in.
“Over the last two weeks I’ve had time to think about it and it has become reality,” he said.
“I’ve got the dream that I wanted as a kid, but now I’m hungrier than ever.
“I’ve reset my goals and it’s all about keeping that motivation.
“Now I know what I need to do for the summer.”
Bird is in contention to compete at the European Championships in Hungary next month.
