Old Woodstock leapt over promotion rivals Letcombe into second place in Sport italia Hellenic League Division 1 West with a narrow 1-0 victory on Saturday The first half belonged to the young Woodstock team, with Nick Thorne and Tom Roberts a constant danger on the flanks.
The only goal came after 11 minutes, defender Mark Wilson stooping low to head the ball home at the far post, following a corner.
Paul Roberts fired over for Letcombe after Mark Denny had cut the ball back into his path.
Letcombe had their best spell early in the second half, Mark Denny hitting the bar, and Woodstock keeper Alan Foster rushing off his line to block a Paul Roberts effort.
Woodstock had a chance to increase their lead from the penalty spot after Mark de la Coze fouled James Keeble, but Nick Thorne shot straight at keeper Stuart Game.
Letcombe pushed forward strongly in search of the equaliser, but a well-organised Woodstock defence allowed them few opportunities.
At the other end, Game was forced to make two excellent saves to deny Woodstock a second score.
