Oxford City Stars will be without key defence men Nick Eden and Andy Cox when they face off at Coventry Blaze in English National League South Division A today (5.30).
The duo both have work commitments, so Joe Edwards and Grant Bailey return to the squad for the last game before the Christmas break.
Stars coach Darryl Morvan is expecting a tough battle with a victory vital if Oxford are to qualify for the play-offs again this sesason, but is happy with his replacements.
Morvan said: "Unfortunately we find ourselves without Nick Eden and Andy Cox, who have been playing so well together as a defensive pairing.
"Joe Edwards, who made a strong impression in our fixture against Vectis Tigers, is again called up to the squad, and Grant Bailey returns.
"With two games against Coventry and one against Cardiff, we know that the next few matches are of vital importance to making a strong challenge for a play-off slot.
"The way the players face these challenges will provide a telling comment on the character and mental toughness of this Oxford team."
Morvan knows his players must be on their mettle against useful opponets.
He said: "Coventry are showing constant improvement, are a young team full of energy, enthusiasm.
"They are very well-drilled by their coach, Joel Poirier.
"Indeed, they are remarkably similar to ourselves, and it is this match-up that will make the game so inter- esting."
Coventry, who are in their first season in the ENHL, won their last match against Solihull and only just lost to Peterborough in the cup.
Third-placed Oxford are level on ten points with Coventry, who are fourth on goal difference.
Oxford have four games in hand, but must keep winning to secure the top-two finish they need to reach the play-offs.
